Geo-Tech has two truck mounted and one track mounted sonic rig to facilitate scheduling and mobilization from our Tualatin, Oregon office. Sonic Drilling is taking off in the Northwest. Sonic Drilling is the ideal drilling choice for environmental sites with tough formations and the need for highly representative samples and little disturbance. Sonic drilling uses no drilling fluids or air to move cuttings which minimizes disturbance of the formation and helps to maintain sample integrity. Our experienced crews are ready to assist you on any of your projects.

What is Sonic Drilling?

Sonic drilling is a dual cased system that employs the use of high frequency vibration to obtain continuous core samples of any unconsolidated formations and many consolidated formations (including bedrock), and to advance casing for well construction and other purposes. Sonic rigs can drill to depths in excess of 300-feet and install test borings and wells to angles of 75° off vertical. Well installations are available from 1/2 inch to 8 inch diameter.

Because Sonic drilling does not use air, mud or water like traditional drilling methods, it is capable of collecting highly representative, relatively undisturbed soil samples that can be screened for VOCs. Depending on geotechnical or environmental data needed, standard split spoons, shelby tubes or any other conventional sampling unit can be attached to collect a soil sample.
